East to West

If you go back and read our September 22, 2005 blog you will find out that we rode out to the West Quoddy Head Light House in Maine. I wrote this about it, “This cape is the most easterly point in the United States, and it has a very pretty red and white striped light house on it.”

Today we stopped at the Cape Blanco Lighthouse, and it is on the most westerly point in the “Continental” Unites States. Volunteer Russell gave us a wonderful tour of the lighthouse including the lamp room with it’s beautiful Fresnell lens. This lighthouse happens to be in our home state of Oregon. We have visited nearly all of the light houses in Washington and Oregon, but we always missed this one and the Coquille River Light House. (This lighthouse no longer has a light.) Indeed we rode our bicycle to the Coquille Light House. Yes and for Sue, there will be a full page of gratuitous light house photos on the blog below

We have had the loveliest weather here on the California and Oregon coast this past week. We are trying our best to tow it back to Portland for all our friends there.

Oh yes and welcome to our newest friends and co-tourists of the Cape Blanco Lighthouse, George and Ruth from British Columbia.
