The First Ding!

In case you were wondering, we havn’t dropped off the face of the earth. We have been living in our new home for two weeks now. As many of you know we have been back and forth in Scappoose and Saint Helens Oregon for these two weeks. We have already found a couple of places that a 34 foot long by eight and a half foot wide by eleven foot high home won’t fit. We also picked up our first ding, so now we can get on with life. The ding had something to do with a small Washington State Wayside along Hood Canal. We have stopped there many times before and several of those times were with the boat. It is enough to say that the Arcturus with the Regal Jug behind will not snake through the same sinuous park roads that the Explorer towing the same boat could negotiate. We moved a smallish bolder with our porch step. It was reasonabley easy to disconnect the motor, unbolt the step and remove it. A few whangs with a five pound sledge and some torque from a rather largish Crescent wrench put the bent pantograph arm back in line, and it works like new. As a result of this escapade we have now purchased a pair of “Talkabout” radios. This will allow the ‘mon-back person to communicate directly with the driver instead of wildly waving her arms. Life is full of wonderful things that we never really knew we needed.

Up till now our days have been filled with searching our storage unit for those little treasures that we want to fill our home with, followed by stowing, packing, unpacking and re-stowing these treasures to get them to fit in our new home.

This weekend we have taken a break from these activities to join old friends and some new friends for a campover in Warrenton, Washington. We are guests of a small travel club based in Saint Helens Oregon. There are about twenty of us here at the Kampers West Campground. Two of the couples are from our church, the Gauens and the Pickerings. The others are all new friends and they are a wonderful fun-loving bunch.

On Sunday afternoon we will return to Saint Helens and stay in Audry and Al Sinner’s front yard for a couple more days. We will visit our dentist and finish a few more chores before heading for Spokane, Sun Valley and points south. Those of you who are local to Saint Helens are welcome to drop by. Call us at 503-803-6698 just to make sure we are home.
