A Snowball in Yuma:

No, No! It hasn’t snowed here in Yuma. Its just that we found a campground about seven miles south out of Yuma Arizona and we needed a can of spray paint for a little “project” that Gary has to finish. We heard about a Bargain Barn just four miles down the road so we rolled Path, our trusty tandem bicycle, out of the trailer and started a quick ride to get a can of paint. It was the ride that grew like a snowball. First of all if someone who drives a car or pickup tells you its only four miles, you know it is at least twice that far. If they tell you there are no hills, then you know the worst climb will only be a 6% grade. To be fair, it is flat here. Really flat, flat, so that was not a problem. We did find the Bargain barn and yes we found exactly the can of paint for the “project.”

By this time we surmised that beings we already had ridden clear back to the Marine Corps Air Base and that is just at the edge of Yuma we might as well pop on over and see what we can see. Oh Goody! We found a Wal-Mart Super Center and were able to stock up on a few groceries. Now we had read that Old Yuma was a nifty place to visit. A friendly bicyclist gave us directions and soon we are all the way on the North side of Yuma visiting Old Yuma. By now we are feeling a bit peeked so we stop for a bite at a nice bistro in Old Yuma. When we finished it was getting close to five and we really needed to start back. When we finally pulled into the campground it was getting a wee bit dark and we had 30 miles on the odometer. Gary’s “project” will have to wait for tomorrow.

What is the “project” you ask? Well right under the door on the front of the coach is this nifty swing-down-and-out step. You open the door and the step swings down and out. Except after you scrape it in the gravel trying to exit a swooped apron to a parking lot. This is only the second time Gary has had to apply the acetylene torch and the 5 pound hammer to the step to put it back in alignment. This time took a little brazing as well. Fortunately it unbolts really easily and it is well built and seems to take the punishment in stride.

We send love to all, Gary and Judy.
