Grand Marshal

We are here in Carson City Nevada just in time for the Nevada Day’s Parade. While we were snooping around the Nevada State Railroad Museum today we chanced on a photo shoot. A Channel 8 special reporter was interviewing the Grand Marshal for the Saturday parade. The catch is the Grand Marshal is a 36 ton 1875 era steam locomotive, no. 22 named the Inyo. This engine is all spit and polish with polished brass gleaming and bright red wheels and burgundy cab. The reporter spent a good hour shooting details of the engine from every possible angle and then pretended to interview the engine as an animate object. From overheard conversations I believe the museum director’s voice is going to be dubbed in as Inyo’s answer to the reporters questions.

To see the resultant story on TV we will have to watch the 11 P.M. news on the local channel 8 out of Reno. We are not receiving it very well, Reno is 15 miles away and we are dry camping at Lake Washoe State Park. This means we will have to run the inverter to watch the news.

Many people get to Reno in their travels. If you haven’t yet taken in the Nevada State Railroad Museum, I recommend saving an afternoon for a visit. The engines are beautifully restored and I understand in the summer around the July 4th celebrations several of these engines are fired and taken on excursion rides.

I will place a photo of the Inyo below.

The weather has been holding here in Western Nevada. The days are sunny and warm, (60 to 70), although the nights get to below freezing. After the parade we plan to sneak up to South Lake Tahoe and see if we can tempt the snow sprites again and get away with it. After that we are off to Sunny California. We are tired of being cold. We should complain, our neighbor is tent camping. Must be a hunter! We will stick with our coach and propane fired furnace, thank you.

We send warm hugs to all our friends and relatives.
